5 Changes you can make at work today that will make your day better

When I say today, since today is actually Sunday, for most people I mean tomorrow, but tomorrow doesn’t sound as punchy. Anyway, you can do this tomorrow too, just don’t put it off ’til the day after that, or that, or that…

Let’s get right down to it then, if you work the normal office grind it can really get you down. Here are my five biggest helpers to get me through a long day feeling chilled – if you’ve got anymore, please share them in the comments section to help other readers too :-) Continue reading

Why bigger isn’t always better

A lot of the stuff I read about following your dreams gives you the same advice – dream big or go home.

I bought in to this for a long time. Or maybe I misunderstood it. I dreamt big. I had big ideas. I wanted to do so much. I read everything I could. I researched. I planned. Then I….didn’t do a lot.

You see, the problem with dreaming big is that there’s an assumption that you have to also act big. Continue reading

When was the last time you celebrated something you’d accomplished?

When I asked myself this question yesterday, the answer didn’t surprise me. I couldn’t remember. After a while I came up with the fact I went for a meal when I got promoted in December. Woop-di-do.

It has come to my attention that most of us do gooding humans have a tendency to beat ourselves black and blue when we do something we think of as wrong but refuse to congratulate ourselves when something goes right. Continue reading

Being limited by my own world view

It occurred to me this morning that, over the past few months, I’ve managed to put myself back in to a little bit of a box.

What I mean by this is that I started wondering if I was being limited by my own world view. As regular readers will know, I recently started a new job in London and went through some other changes. By ‘normal’ standards I’m doing well. I have a good job that allows me to live in a lovely flat in a good area of London, right by the river with great transport links in to the City.

What does all that mean? It means I’ve stopped wondering what ‘else’ I could do. Continue reading

The real test of inner confidence

Well hi there!

So it’s been a really hectic couple of months. Firstly, my website got taken down because it got hacked by malware, and due to my VERY limited tech skills, it took me ages to get it up and running again, with thanks to Sambo.

So the new look is simple, clean and, more importantly, I got it up and running in a few hours – I hope you like it. It may well change going forward but for now I think the content is more important than the look. If you’re reading this on email, have a look here.

OK so back to the title of this email, here’s an overview of my life in the past couple of months: Continue reading

Rain, rain go away, come again another day!

According to my estimations, it’s been raining for a solid 16hrs so far at my little flat in East London. According to news reports, that’s pretty good going compared to up North.

It’s not even light rain either, this is chucking it down rain so the leaves of the trees start to look sad and droopy. It’s a bit depressing really for the first week in July.

The other think that doesn’t help is the fact that I’ve been sick all week :-( Yep – coughing, sneezing, sore throat, headache, aches and pains, blocked nose, running nose, the lot. POOR ME. Continue reading

Do you really need passion?

There’s been an awful lot going on in my world of late – I moved apartments. Actually, that’s pretty much it but it seemed to take some much time and energy, even though we were only moving 30 mins away to East London (New apartment, in a marina, next to the Thames – not to blow my own trumpet but we did really well – it’s so pretty and I love it!).

As a result of this move however, we are now on a budget. I hate that word. It never ends well. There’s never anything good about a budget.

Except, it made me think about things. Continue reading
